Must Have Monday -- Fishs Eddy Glasses

Swimmers 15 oz --$5.50 each,
Fishs Eddy, 2009

A bit about the company, from their site:

Our name, Fishs Eddy, is respectfully borrowed from a small hamlet upstate New York. Our signature pattern is homage to the skyline of New York City and graces dinner tables all over the world. Our unique and often witty designs inspire many smiles. And our ever-dependable glassware and everyday diner white-ware have earned their place as Fishs Eddy classics. Yes, we have evolved and changed over the years. In fact, there is exciting growth in our near future. But we have never strayed from our original vision. To only commit to “wares” that are tried and true and stand the test of time. To be eclectic and free thinking. To know that in the kitchen, the rules should be breakable, not the dishes. And most importantly…to always have some good old fashion fun!

That's why after twenty years …we still love “doing dishes”!

There are so many great patterns on this site. I should never even look at it. I have more glasses than one person should ever have. Yet, I seem to always find more that I simply MUST have. I really adore the swimmers, but the Little Red Riding Hood glass would be great in my collection too!

This Makes Me Shudder.

Retro Candy Cigarettes sold at a gas station in 2007

I never bought these, but I remember when they were on the shelf at the Ben Franklin in my hometown. I was more likely to go for a Jolly Rancher Fire Stix or Gold Nugget Gum or a 3 cent piece of Bazooka Joe Bubble Gum. After all, you got a comic and a fortune with your rock hard slab of pink stuff. I DID buy Big League Chew and isn't that more or less the same idea? Disgusting. I can't believe candy companies ever did this. I guess the average American hadn't quite figured out the health hazards yet.

I remember pretending to smoke, not with candy cigarettes, but with french fries. I would dip the end in the ketchup, as if to light it and I'd puff away on my french fry nibbling at the end in my mouth and holding it delicately between my fingers, allowing a big exhale and a sigh of deliciousness to escape with dramatic flair. Sometimes when my brother and sister and I had an empty Bubble Gum Tape by the yard container we'd peel the labels off the plastic and crush up oreos and take turns walking around with it in our back pockets, offering some "snuff" to one another.

Sugar-Sweetened Cereal

Truly a thing of the past for me!

Inspired by this site, I decided to post some of my favorite childhood cereals. I liked things like Corn flakes and Cheerios too, but I still eat those. THESE are the sugary tooth rotting treasures of my past. I haven't thought of Cookie Crisp in YEARS!
